First, while having a Michigan contractor's license might be helpful for obtaining a Florida license, that license won't immediately allow a contractor to perform work that requires a Florida license. Still, note that not all work requires licensure in Florida. Though, it appears Florida roofers must be licensed. For minor work, though, as long as the work doesn't fall under one of the following categories, there's a pretty fair chance that work won't require a license: – foundations, – structural walls, – plumbing, – electrical, – asbestos abatement, – other tasks that require licenses (which could depend on the location) So, it's possible that no state license would be needed to perform decking work. Even if that's the case, though, there could certainly be some municipal or county regulation that requires certain licensing and permitting in order to perform decking work. And, reaching out to the local permitting office could help to sort out what's needed to perform that work.
