Hello,

Immediately send notice of intent to lien to all contractors and property owners above you and then file your lien if it is a residential or commercial property. If it is a public works project, your steps will be different.

If they are going to hardball you like this, play hardball right back. Just be aware, however, that if you do file a lien, there may be a series of lawyers that descend upon you like hornets. If there were complaints about the work, you're looking at a breach of contract lawsuit among other causes of action.

If there were never any complaints about your work, you may still have to sue to enforce your lien which will take longer than you want it to. Unless prompt payment is forthcoming, it seems like you are going to need another way to pay your guys in the interim.
