A Notice of Intent to Lien will force payment a lot of the time. But, unfortunately, there are some situations which call for further action. It may be a last-ditch effort, but threatening legal action with a demand letter might help to get paid, too. But, if threats of legal action or mechanics liens aren't helping to get paid, then actually pursuing them might. Delaware, unlike most states, has a pretty involved mechanics lien filing process. And, pursuing a mechanics lien will generally mean pursuing legal action and needing an attorney. So, if a lien will be filed, it'd be wise to seek out a Delaware attorney for help with that. And, of course, other actions - like a breach of contract claim, or a claim under the Delaware prompt payment laws - might be on the table too. Alternatively, if the claim is for less than $15,000, pursuing a claim in Delaware small claims court might be an alternative to getting an attorney involved. Or, sending a debt to collections might be another option as well.
