What can be done

New JerseyRecovery Options

I have been snow plowing a hoa community for 3 years. This year I was told in july by the vice president in a text message that I was awarded the bid again. When I sent the first invoice I was told that a new board hired a different contractor and they refused to pay me. What can I do

If you were awarded a contract and then the contract was improperly terminated, then you may well have contract claims against the party who terminated the contract. Further, if payment is owed for work performed but has not been paid, then that, too, would factor into a breach formulation. Taking a different route and pursuing a debt through collections could be an option as well. To determine what options make the most sense in your situation, it might be a good idea to consult a local attorney. They'll be able to review your situation and any relevant documents or communications and advise on recovery options. And, for disputes of $3,000 or less, making a claim via New Jersey Small Claims Court could help to streamline things. Of course, before resorting to legal claims or even collections, pursuing payment with something like a payment demand letter could get the job done as well. A payment demand letter doesn't have to be complicated - but one that contains specific legal threats and puts a deadline on making payment will tend to be more effective.
