What are our rights as the property owner if the suppliers do not get paid?

CaliforniaPayment Disputes

We had some work done on our property and we paid the contractor once the work was completed on 7/23/19. His suppliers filed a prelim on the job, which we received a week after work was complete. I have reached out to the two suppliers to get unconditional final releases but they still have not received payment.

It is important to determine the date on which the labor or material was last furnished by the claimant who sent you the preliminary notice. The prelim goes back and captures the value of the labor and materials furnished to the job in the 20 day period prior to the date it was served. Of course, this also depends on whether the preliminary notice was properly completed and served, as well as other factors.
