What are my legal options moving forward

OklahomaConstruction Contract

I'm a remodeling contractor in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. I bid a kitchen remodel which the homeowner agreed to, I set a start date and after working on the project for 5 days, the owner informed me that she no longer wanted me to continue and asked me to come get my stuff out and to bring an invoice so we could settle up, which I did, but she refused to pay me at that point. She said the reason for firing me was because she didn't like the way I was doing the minor electrical work, that I included in the bid, (replace a couple receptacles and installation of a couple can lights and new switch). Before the project even started, I informed her that I wasn't a licensed electrician, at the time she agreed to letting me handle the electrical anyway. This all happened in June of 2022. The total amount of my bid was $8,900, when I went to remove my stuff, I invoiced her for $3,600, she decided not to pay at that time. I contacted her several times to try and collect the $3,600 but she refuses to pay me anything. I feel that she is in Breach of Contract and I could sue for the full amount of project, $8,900.

Did you have a written contract with her for this work? Did you file a lien for the work you actually performed? The next step would be to possibly have an attorney send her a demand letter, and if she still refuses to pay, file a lawsuit. I can help with that if you would like. Please call my office at 918.770.4335, or send me an email at Jonathan@libertylegalok.com, to set up a free consultation about your options.
