The owner of the company wants to know what can he do next? Forclosure lien? There has been no attempt to pay by client since August.

You have one year from recording the lien to file a lawsuit to foreclose on it. After that time, the lien is void. If demand letters have been unsuccessful, then the next option is to file a lawsuit.

What type of lawyer do you suggest him getting? Will a retainer be requested from a lawyer?
