CaliforniaPreliminary Notice

We received a preliminary notice from a vendor with an amount that is about $10,000 over the quoted price on the job. Is this normal? Could it harm us in any way?

It could harm the vendor if the preliminary notice is not based on a some sort of calculation. That is, California case law says that the vendor's lien may be unenforceable if the vendors 20-day prelim. is not based on a rational analysis or calculation of available information.
