Did you have a Virginia Contractor's License at the time the work was performed? If not, then you may not be able to file a lien and you may be precluded from seeking any form of judicial relief (breach of contract, etc.) if you were not properly licensed.

In addition to the need for a Virginia driver's license, you must file the lien within 90 days of the last day on whihc work was performed on the project. Except for retainage, your lien cannot include any amounts for work performed more than 150 days prior to that, and I strongly recommend that you perform a title search as part of the lien filing.

labourer, sub contractor it sounds like. Give me a call if you'd like, my firm specializes in collecting money for contractors. I charge nothing upfront either. Joshua@wolfgangandrhodes.com (214) 518-9595
