The failure to file a notice of commencement does not impact your right to lien the project as the general contractor.

A notice of commencement will have no impact on your lien. A notice of commencement is designed to protect the owner from liens filed by down line subs or suppliers that the owner has no direct contact.

If you are still within the 90-day lien period, you can correct your lien or file a new one. Correcting a lien after the 90-day lien period has expired is difficult. You will not be able to correct substantive errors.
