Subcontractor liens

MissouriMechanics Lien

Hello! We are the original contractor and sub contracted a job out to someone else. They have crews that then perform the job that we had subcontracted out. Upon completion, we the original contractor paid the subcontractor that we hired. We were contacted by one of the crew members of that job about how they were going to file a lien against the homeowners house because he was not paid. After speaking with our subcontractor he stated that this particular individual was high on the job site and was only there for 4 hours before he voluntarily left the job while it was still in progress without telling any of the other workers performing the job. He is threatening legal action against us along with putting a lien on the customer's home. No contracts were signed by the subcontractor and us for this job. What are our options? Are we liable? Is our customer liable? We are unfamiliar with how this works.

I would assume that you guys are not liable since there are no legal documents attaining contracts between the two of you. (The contractor and subcontractor)
