Sub of GC is filing a lien against my house, but its for work he was already paid for.

GeorgiaLien Releases

I hired a GC to do a home renovation in GA. The GC hired an electrician, who was later fired for not communicating/showing up when scheduled. The electrician started contacting me (the homeowner) directly with threatening messages that included "I am going to love filing a lien on your house" and "let me know when I can get check or else". The GC paid him his requested amount, and the electrician wrote in an email he was "Paid in full" so that the GC could get the permit switched to new electrician. Now the electrician refuses to provide a lien release, and is requesting additional funds over and above the amount they initially requested. Please note, all payments requested since being fired are mostly false, but the GC paid to keep the property free and clear. How do I show the county that this lien is frivolous, or do I need to go the legal route? If so, can i recoup legal fees from the electrician?

If the electrician files an lien, or has filed a lien, you should file a notice of contest which will shorten his time to enforce the lien to 60 days. If he files a lien, you should let him know that you are going to file a claim for slander of title and for your legal fees.
