Unfortunately I see owners placed in this position quite often. The angle is that it is more expensive to fight the lien than to pay the difference in the contract price or reach an agreement somewhere in between. This is why it is so critical to have a set sum agreed to for a project prior to the commencement of construction. (I know hind sight is 20x20). As it appears negotiations have fallen through, if you wish to do anything other than pay the difference to have the lien removed, you will need to retain an attorney to help you. Feel free to reach out to my office directly if you would like. I handle these types of cases. Very best, Ben 281-762-1377 ben@houseperron.com
