I'm a subcontractor working on a large project. We finished work and are not receiving final payment even after filing a Mechanics Lien. Our Mechanics lien will expire in 9 days. We contacted a lawyer and we were advice to do not make the Mechanics lien effective as the amount of money owed will be simnifically less due to all filing and lawyer expenses. We were advise to wait for contractor to fix the problem as they are also going in a legal matter with client. We were told that this was the best practice because we still have 4 years to enforce contract if non payment is received. However, I would like a second opinion. Contract balance is for $30,107.00.
