We're just starting to send prelims in California and are not sure how to calculate our deadline. If we fabricate our iron pieces as well as install them, is our prelim deadline based on the start of fabrication or the start of installation?

You should send prelims even before you start your fabrication work. Most sophisticated businesses in California send prelims as soon as they receive a contract.

I agree with counsel. It's best to get in the habit of sending out your Preliminary Notice as soon as you sign the contract. That way you won't forget.
