Whether or not prevailing wages must be paid on an Ohio project will depend on a number of different issues. For one, prevailing wages will only be required for public works - so, if it's a privately run prison, then prevailing wages might not be required at all. Further, if it's a new build, then it'd need to exceed $250,000 in order to trigger prevailing wage requirements. But, if it's a remodeling, alteration, renovation, etc. - then prevailing wages would need to be paid on all jobs which exceed $75,000.
If you think you should be getting prevailing wages on a given job, it might be a good idea to discuss the matter with your employer. They may be able to set the record straight as to why prevailing wages aren't being paid. Or, consulting with a local Ohio construction attorney who's familiar with prevailing wage requirements might help, too. Finally, yet another option might be to file a prevailing wage complaint with the state.
