A GC filed a Mechanics Lien on me and my property back in 2008. No law suit was filed after. Do I still need to worry about that lien today? What if i want to sell the house? How can I get it removed from our record?

Is the contractor still in business? If so, the easiest way to ensure clear title may be to have the contractor release the lien. If the contractor refuses to do so, you may be able to file a petition to have the lien removed and seek to recover your attorney's fees.
