And i called the carpenters union and the full package for a building carpenter is $54 thats with fringe. My company is statimg prevailing wage for a building carpenter is $13.72/hr bcuz of davis-bacon act. Our laborers are only making 14/hr and the company is saying the prevailing wage for a laborer is $8.41/hr please can someone tell me if this is lies or truth??

If the project is a federal project - then the federal prevailing wage rates under the Davis-Bacon Act will apply. But, if it's an Illinois state, local, or municipal project - then the state's prevailing wage laws (often called a "Little Davis-Bacon Act") will apply. So, it's possible that there may be confusion about what rates are being discussed - and straightening that out might help to resolve things. If not, then discussing things with your union rep and seeing if they'll intervene on your behalf might be worthwhile. Or, discussing the issue with a local Illinois construction attorney might help to straighten things out or to assess whether it might be time to make a wage claim. Unfortunately, though - I'm no expert on the Illinois prevailing wage requirements, and a quick search didn't help to find the state's prevailing wage rates. To get more information on Illinois' prevailing wage requirements and making a wage claim, the Illinois Department of Labor site should be useful. Or, if it's a federal job, the Department of Labor site has great info.
