Good morning, It sounds like you may be looking to get a better idea about a contractor's payment history before signing on to take a job with them. That is a good practice to get into- as you want to make sure you extend credit to folks who can be trusted to pay you! This article by the inimitable Lori Drake covers what a company's credit policy consists of and how to put it into action. One example of a credit procedure would be to ask the potential customer to provide one or more references from subs they have had a positive working and payment relationship with. It looks like you might have an idea to ask a former client of his, the owner of a past job, how the job was handled. That may give you information on the project management and job timeline you can expect in a future job together. If you are looking at a way to see a GC's reputation and payment history from the perspective of other subs- you'll enjoy our free contractor pages tool. This resource combines the opinions and experience of subs with data pulled from county recorders about which of a contractor's jobs have been subject to liens. I highly encourage you to check out this resource, and even if the GC you are evaluating is not there, to request a page for them, so that our industry-leading research team can give you actionable insights. I do hope this is helpful- for a deep dive on Credit Policy, visit our hub in the learning center Warmly, Emily
