Payment disagreement

California

I’m a subcontractor who is having payment issues with the prime contractor paying the bill. They have allegedly exceeded their budget and took the project over. Upon leaving the project I request a job walk with the company and inventory verification to avoid future issue and they didn’t comply. Now they are claiming that there will be charge backs for work not done properly and that has to be fixed, I requested a punch list and said I would go repair the issues myself but they declined. I believe they are doing this to avoid paying me the amount owed is there anything I can do at this point. All the work which was done was signed of by the city electrical inspector.

You have a fact-specific scenario that requires someone to look at the documents and get a good understanding of the work you did before they can advise you on what your rights are. Broadly speaking, you might have contract rights, lien rights, or bond rights. But, without having a lot more information it is impossible to know what your options are. I would contact a construction attorney to at least get some idea of where you stand. That attorney is going to ask you for information on who your contract is with, when you did the work, what the scope was, whether it's a public or private project, whether you filed prelim notices, etc. So I would have that information available before the call if you can.
