next step after mechanics lien ?

I'm a contractor doing a large residential project. Customer hasn't paid since May. I left the job because of nonpayment and now the customer is threatening to make a claim on my hic license. Do I need to get a lawyer?

I would recommend that you get a lawyer. There are many traps for the contractor such as the type of contract that you hand to the customer. There are “boilerplate” terms that you have to put in. When you say “large” does it mean many units? Or does it mean a large house? New construction is not governed by your HIC license.

I agree with David that you should talk this through with a lawyer. Feel free to call me tomorrow and I will walk you through how to handle the issue.

Sincerely,

Andrea
