I am a homeowner who hired a contractor to do some work, after the work is complete and I have fully paid the contractor I find out the plumber a sub of the contractor is owed money. That Sub has now filed a lien on my property. Is he allowed to do that even when he knows the prime contractor has been paid? The sub is also demanding I pay him an extra $200 for his troubles to release the lien, do I have to do that or can I just pay him what he is owed and ask him to release the lien?
