Louisiana licensed plumber trying to understand lean process

LouisianaMechanics LienPayment Disputes

I am a licensed plumbing contractor in Louisiana. How long is the typical lien process against a residential homeowner? And average cost?

Every construction payment dispute is different, and depending on how contentious things gets, the costs could vary quite a bit. But, as far as actually filing the mechanics lien claim itself - that can be done relatively cheaply and quickly. Certainly, though, having a service - like Levelset - or an attorney help with your lien may add some costs to the process. Though, they may make it quicker and less stressful. The actual filing time and cost might not be the only things to consider when looking at a lien claim, though. Mechanics lien disputes will take a little time - at the very least, others on the job will want to review invoices to see what's already been paid vs. what's owed, then compare that with the lien claim. Plus, if thee's any dispute over what's actually owed or the workmanship, then that will draw things out too. Finally, if the dispute takes on a legal flavor or makes its way to the courtroom - then the cost and time associated with pursuing the debt will certainly increase. Granted, most mechanics lien claims don't result in lawsuits. So, it's hard to pinpoint  timeframe or cost for mechanics lien disputes. Still, the costs and time for actually filing a lien are very much quantifiable.
