Lien filed, now what?

California

I filed a mechanic's lien on 12/10/2020. Have not received any response from owner. Now what do I do?

You need to perfect your lien by filing a lawsuit no later than 90 days from the date the lien was recorded. If your lien was recorded on December 10, 2020 you have until March 10, 2021 to file the lawsuit. Call your attorney now… Do not wait until the last minute.

You will need to file suit in the county where the project is located within 90 days of the recordation of the lien.

The next step is for you to file a lawsuit to foreclose the lien by no later than 3-10-21, which is 90 days from the lien recording date) or your lien will expire.  Depending on the amount of your lien and your situation, a lawsuit may not be cost effective for you.  I’m happy to answer any questions you have about this.
