Kitchen remodel

CaliforniaCoronavirus

I’m in the middle of a kitchen remodel. I’ve been without a kitchen for over 6 weeks. Can they continue working on my kitchen. I keep getting the run around with the contractor. All they need to do is put in the countertop, sink and garbage disposal. The other things can wait, but I need water to my kitchen.

According to the guidance on California's statewide stay home order, necessary residential work can continue as essential business. To quote, "Workers such as plumbers, electricians, exterminators, and other service providers who provide services that are necessary to maintaining the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences" will be considered essential. So, at least according to that order, necessary residential construction can continue. And, it'd seem that making sure a kitchen has water would be deemed necessary. It's perfectly normal - if not expected - for a contractor to avoid returning to a project during the government shutdown. But, requesting that a contractor return to your job to at least make it possible to get water to your kitchen seems reasonable, too. Reaching out to your contractor to request that they come back and perform at least enough work to make your kitchen functional might be a good place to start. And, looking for ways to sterilize the workspace, to make it as safe as possible, and to observe social distancing requirements might make it easier to convince your contractor to return to the site.
