Is there any difference in filing a lien in CA if it is a commercial vs a residential job?

CaliforniaMechanics Lien

If we file a lien in CA on a residential job vs. a commercial job are there any differences in the process that we should be aware of? Are the lien forms or deadlines different? Does it matter if we identify a property as residential when it was actually commercial, or vice versa?

While some states have different rules with respect to mechanics lien forms or deadlines between residential and non-residential projects, that is not the case in California. There may be contractual requirements that differ between the projects, but as far as the process for obtaining a lien all private works of improvement are treated the same, with the same deadlines, the same form, and the same recording/serving process.
