Is my lien valid?

IllinoisMechanics Lien

We performed a mitigation project in a home in July 2021. I filed a lien on a property in October 2021. However the property was sold a few days after we completed the project. Is my lien valid or do I have to pursue other legal recourses such as going to small claim's court or press charges for theft of services. Thanks.

You filed a Mechanics Lien against property after the Owner with whom you contracted had sold it. That Mechanics Lien may be construed as a slander on title - since it derives from work not requested by the current Owner, who is entitled to seek sanctions for the filing.

The safe route would be to release your Lien to avoid a lawsuit by the current Owner. In the meantime, I would bring a suit before the Circuit Court of the County in which the property is located, against the Owner that hired you

I hope this information was helpful. Best of luck.
