Is it a good idea to contact property owner/restauarant owner via telephone to inform them lien process intent?

North Carolina

I'm a subcontractor who has been through the ringer with a Contracting company refusing to pay on agreeable terms for labor and materials already provided. We have a number of emails and text message exchange that reflect the contracting company's awareness of the owed money, as well as the stall game to render payment.

According to Levelset's resources, subcontractors in NC need to file a Notice of Claim of Lien Upon Funds, not a Claim of Lien on Real Property. This is done in writing, not by phone. You can read more about the lien profess in North Carolina here: https://www.levelset.com/blog/how-to-file-mechanics-lien-north-carolina/
