Is an invoice required to be sent to homeowners prior to notice of mechanics lien?

If a contractor that we approved for water remediation was submitted to the insurance but not to us, the homeowner. And the insurance is denying the claim, but us, the homeowners never got an invoice, can a mechanics lien be placed on the property? Shouldn’t there be an invoice sent to us, the homeowners, prior to a preliminary notice?

No sending you an invoice is not a prerequisite to recording a mechanic’s lien. The first step is the mailing of a preliminary lien notice.
