I'm a GC in CA and did not file a Preliminary notice can I now file a Lien because I'm not getting paid?

I'm the direct general contractor working on a residential project in CA and did not file the Preliminary Notice within 20 days of starting the job. I've been off the job but I'm still within my 60 days of having been on the job but I'm not receiving payment. Can I now file a lien? What if any are my legal options?

A direct contractor need not serve a 20-day preliminary notice, except if there is a lender on the project.
