Wisconsin mechanics liens have a particularly long s helf life when compared to other states. Once filed, it will remain valid and enforceable for up to 2 years from the date the claim was filed. A foreclosure action will need to be filed within that timeframe to enforce your rights, or the lien will expire.

One option to try and induce payment before contacting an attorney to file the foreclosure action is to send a Notice of Intent to Foreclose. This is a fairly effective, optional notice, that states you have a filed claim and have yet to be paid. If you aren't paid within a certain amount of days, a foreclosure action will be filed. Most claims are paid out without resorting to enforcement, yet sometimes it may be necessary.
