I had someone place a lien on my vehicle that was in the shop no more then 30 days. After placing the lien he the took my car out of my name and placed it in his company's name and sold my car is this legal without informing me

My boyfriend placed the car that was in my name to have audio work done to it. The car was there no more then 30 days. I recieved a letter on the 13th of June that he was filing for a mechanics lein, that he mailed out to me on the 11th of June. I was in Richmond taking my brother to practice on the 18th of June and I seen someone else driving my car. So I then contacted him to see what was going on. He then tells me he sold my car. I went to DMV and they told me he took my car out of my name on the 12th of June. I need to know where I go from here.

I'm really sorry to hear about that - it sounds horribly frustrating at best, and potentially illegal at worst. However, this is a bit outside my area of expertise - and the Ask an Expert Center is geared toward construction law and construction payment problems, including disputes with mechanics liens in the construction industry. That being said, it will likely be hard to recover property from someone who purchased it in good faith - so recovery of the vehicle might be an uphill battle if the purchaser was unaware that the car may have been unlawfully sold. But it could certainly be possible to recover the cost of the vehicle if it was improperly sold.

There are some other resources available online that should be helpful for you, though. Particularly, Avvo.com and JustAnswer.com both provide the ability to ask questions and receive answers from attorneys and professionals from a variety of fields, beyond the construction industry.
