how much does it cost to sue a home owner for work done on a house

New JerseyLawsuit

Before I got married my wife was added to the deed then we got married and I moved in. I put all new LED trim lights I put new tiles around fire place installed a $450 kitchen faucet I renovated the basement put in surround sound in the ceilings I installed a new boiler a new water heater and a new 6 inch stainless steel liner. I had to jack hammer part of the concrete in the back of the house and redoing the concrete to get the house insured I also put in a new circle patio and did landscaping work. I have some receipts and I have lots of pics and videos of the work that I have done is it possible to know how much it will cost to file a lawsuit because my wife moved out the house and gave back ownership of the house to her parents and I have money invested into this property. Is it worth me To fight for my money and labor I put into this house

Improvements to a house by one spouse occurring after the marriage may well be considered marital property. And, if so, it might be possible to recover amounts relating to the value of your contributions to that marital property. So, there could be potential for recovery there, despite the fact that payment wasn't expected for the work that was performed. However, I'll be the first to admit I'm not an expert on situations like this one - and consulting a New Jersey property or divorce lawyer would provide a lot more insight into how contributions to marital property should be handled. They'll be much more knowledgeable on matters like the one discussed above. Regarding the cost of pursuing such an action - that's hard to say. The cost of pursuing recovery would greatly depend on the facts and circumstances of the situation, and it'd be up to your lawyer as to what they'll be charging for their services. Note, though, that if the dispute is less than $3,000, New Jersey small claims court could be an option for streamlining things and keeping costs under control.
