How many classifications would I have to operate under?

LouisianaLicenses

I'm looking to start my own Water & Fire Restoration, Mold Remidiation & Clean-up business. I'm not sure which classifications I would need. I think I'm over-thinking the process & got myself confused!

First, it's worth noting that Louisiana does have licensing requirements for performing mold remediation work. You can learn more about obtaining a mold remediation license here: Mold Remediation | Louisiana State Licensing Board. However, it does not appear that there are specific license requirements for water & fire restoration in the state. Granted, while certain licenses might not officially be required for certain work, there are industry certifications that many businesses obtain and use to show their customers that they're qualified professionals. Further, it's also pretty common for restoration businesses to obtain a contractor's license to expand their potential scope of work and to establish their credibility. I'll be the first to admit that licensure requirements aren't my area of expertise, though. So, to determine what licenses or certifications might be necessary or preferable, it'd be wise to consult with those already in the industry in Louisiana, or to reach out to an attorney or consultant who's well versed in the state's licensure requirements.
