How do I get the full $15K from my contractors bond company.

I filed a claim against my contractors bond company. He built our pool with no permit and we paid him almost $200K. His bond is for $15K. They are offering us $7400 based on a formula. We have submitted over $50K just to repair the landscaping issues. How do we get the full $15K?

Contractor bond requirement and payouts are addressed in Business and Professions Code Section 7071.5 and 7071.6. Under 7071.6 the bond is only paid out to $7,500 if it is not a Home Improvement Contract. Not sure if that is what happened here, but you may want an attorney to review the letter and formula you received from the Bond Company.
