When liens are to be released, cancelled, or discharged a document to that effect should be filed in the same office in which the lien itself was filed. In Kansas, this means the lien cancellation should be filed with the clerk of the district court of the county in which property is located. Generally, the lien release should reference the original lien by instrument number (or book and page of the recorded lien), and describe the parties and amount of the lien to be released. Just like with any other filing, lien releases will have associated filing fees, and must meet county formatting requirements. Clerk of Court contact information for all Kansas counties can be found here. Of course, you can always make it easy by creating and filing your lien release through software.
