How do I get a lien removed from my property? (Cass County Nebraska)

NebraskaMechanics Lien

We have a new home built by a company that filed bankruptcy near the end of building our home. Several sub contractors filed liens on our home. Most we were able to get removed with the letter from the company that built our house saying that we were paid in full. The final company refused to remove the lien stating they didn't care if we had to pay twice they were getting their money. It has been almost 3 years now since the lien was filed and we would really love to refinance our home because my husband is fighting stage 4 cancer but can't because of the lien. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Anonymous--You have a few options. You could file a pretty simple lawsuit to have a judge declare the lien invalid. You could also write the lien holder and tell him that he must file suit or his lien will be invalidated. You then run the risk that the contractor will file suit. Let me know if you would like to discuss your situation.

Craig, I would like to discuss our situation more. I have been looking for help with this for the last year and I just don't know where to start or who to speak to.
