How do I find out who is the bonding company on a specific project?

Finding the bonding company takes some "detective" work - if it is a public entity (i.e., federal, state, county, school or other public agency) it is much more straight forward, and usually a call to the procurement or facilities division of the agency will produce the payment bond fairly quickly. A freedom of information (FOIA) act request can also be made, but that will typically take 30 days or more.
