Hello, We are a restoration company who performed restoration work on a customers home who is refusing to pay. Recently the insurance company paid for 1/2 of the balance of the invoice. We are now due about $7k. We missed our lien filing deadlines. What else can we do in order to collect the remaining balance?
Unfortunately, small balances like these are pesky to collect. Since you missed your lien deadline, you probably need to file a breach of contract claim if you really want to collect. You can include interest and maybe even attorneys' fees if your contract allowed for it. You might be able to do this small claims court depending on your county or you can reach out to an attorney on here, including me, to talk about options and costs of pursuing this claim in what's called limited civil jurisdiction--which is just court speak for a cheaper and easier way to collect balances less than $25,000.
