I sent the notice of intent, but I did not have the ability to enforce the lien as the cost of doing so is so high. Is there any there way you recommend us pursuing to collect our money?

I am sorry for the issue. Essentially, you will need to file suit. If the amount is under $7500, proceed in small claims. If above that and under $25K, then county court. If you have a good case you will hope they default or proceed to trial to get a judgment. Once you get a judgment then you can use a bunch of tools to collect including judgment liens, garnishments, and other tools.
