Contractor never provided estimate or quote and is invoicing for more than customary charges for the work performed.

The legal analysis would start with a review of what the parties had agreed (the analysis would be complicated if there is no written contract defining work scope and price), and then extend to any communications which have occurred. If there was no defined price for the work, the law would imply a reasonable price. What a reasonable price would be depends on the circumstances. Determining a reasonable price could be expensive. Retain a construction attorney to evaluate your situation and to provide advice. Good luck.

Hello,

There is a lot to unpack here from such a very short statement.

To begin, is there any form of documentation anywhere that discusses what his final price should be? A text message, perhaps? Did you agree to have the contractor repair the home without an estimate or quote? Do you have data on what the "customary" price is?
