Have a felony from 30 years ago...does that disqualify me from being able to use/operate LEIN?

Michigan

I recently received a job offer but I was told that my felony would prohibit me being able to use LEIN as a part of the job. Also, if I was charged with one felony but 5 counts of the same felony is that considered 5 felonies or one? Also am I eligible to have it expunged?

First of all - congratulations on the job offer! But that's an interesting question, an, unfortunately, it seems like it's a bit out of our wheelhouse. While we field questions on mechanics liens, we're mostly unfamiliar with the Michigan Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN). Further, I'm unfamiliar with expungement since we specialize in construction and construction payment. That being said, it appears that access to Michigan's LEIN network might be limited for individuals with felony convictions. Though, it also appears that there's some flexibility for convictions occurring prior to March of 2001. For more information on who's allowed to access Michigan's LEIN network, this resource should be helpful: MI LEIN Manuals, Policies, and Laws. For more information about possible expungement, the lawyers at Avvo and JustAnswer might be able to provide information about that process and who is eligible. Good luck!
