To enforce the lien merely means the process of starting a lien foreclosure lawsuit in district court. As in any lawsuit, the defendant will not pay unless the matter is settled or you go to trial, win that trial and get a judgment, and then collect on that judgment. In lien foreclosure, that means foreclosing on the property. A trial can be many months to well over a year. The foreclosure process adds more time on this process.

If the services related to this matter were provided through an entity (LLC, corporation, so on), the only way you could prosecute a lawsuit is through an attorney as an entity must be represented by a licensed attorney other than under a few limited circumstances.

Unless you have managed to file and prevail in a lien foreclosure lawsuit before and know the process inside and out and are willing to spend 100s of hours and thousands in expenses, I suggest that you hire an attorney first to review your contract, the facts, and make a demand. If the amount at issue is under the small claims limits, proceed to do that. Unless this is a debt well over $10,000, a lien foreclosure lawsuits costs and expenses may not make sense. Moreover, depending on the facts, there may be other strategies that could assist in getting payment. No attorney can know those options unless they are hired and have all the facts.

A loan foreclosure is full repayment of the outstanding loan amount in a single payment. Thus, you can become debt-free sooner by opting for a personal loan foreclosure if you have extra funds. You can use the foreclosure calculator to know the exact amount you need to prepay to close your loan account.
