Oklahoma subcontractors and suppliers don't need to rely on their GC to provide them a copy of the project's payment bond. Under O.S. § 61-2(A), the public agency with whom the bond was filed must provide a copy of the project's bond to any subcontractor or supplier who requests it. What's more, even if the public agency won't immediately play ball, issuing a Freedom of Information Act request for the bond could work, too. So, before giving up on obtaining a bond number, it'd be wise to reach out to the public agency in charge of the project to try and get a copy of the bond. Nothing in Oklahoma's Little Miller Act seems to require the exact bond number in order for a claim against the GC's payment bond to be effective. However, it's probably a good idea to include that bond number so that the surety can easily identify which bond a claim is being made against. But, they'll also be able to identify the project through other information - like the contractor, the location of the project, the project's nickname, etc. For more information on Oklahoma payment bond claims: Oklahoma Bond Claim Guide and FAQs.
