Does a prelien cover the entire length of the project?

California

I am new to the construction industry. I do not know much about the prelien process. Does the prelien last the entire time of the project?

Prelien (Preliminary Notice) is required once per contract. So if you have a single contract for the Project (even if there are change orders) you only need to send Preliminary Notice once, within 20 days of commencing work. If you are given a separate contract for an additional scope of work (rather than a change order) then you would want to send a new Preliminary Notice for the new scope of work.
