Does a painting and pressure washing company need a contractors license or do they fall under the handyman exception?

FloridaLicenses

I contracted (written) a job with an entity from Facebook market place. He did a sloppy paint job and took the money and ran. He did show me a contractors license from I believe New York and said he was trying to establish his business here in Florida.

That's a good question, and I'm sorry to hear about your trouble on this job. In Florida, there are no license requirements specifically for painting and pressure washing. However, a person holding themselves out as a licensed contractor when they do not, in fact, hold a valid contractors license could certainly lead to penalties - including potential criminal penalties and fines. If this isn't the first offense of lying about being licensed, penalties could shoot up even further.

If you're curious about Florida's licensing requirements and the penalties that could come into play, this article provides some great detail: Florida Contractor’s License: Requirements, Exceptions, and Penalties.
