Does someone who operates as a framing subcontractor have to have a license in FL to do residential framing or can they perform the work under the prime contractor's license. And what requirements for supervision would be required by the prime contractor in this situation.
Generally speaking, a framing subcontractor can perform work on a residence under the supervision of a certified residential, building or general contractor. This is known as the Jim Walter exemption. Supervision does not require that the framing subcontractor have a direct contract with the prime contractor. The prime contractor would need to have a superintendent assigned to the job who inspects the work from time to time.
