Do we still have legal lien rights in the following situation?

California

We have been working on a project for about 9 months now. The bulk of our work is complete and most of our labor has been done but we need a part to complete. The part has been delayed for some time due to the manufactures delays because of Covid, etc. The customer has been kept aware of the parts status and has been in agreement that we will finish as soon as we receive part. We have been working in house to to obtain part by regularly checking with supplier on status and have updated customer within the last 30 days. We have also been in contact with and updated another contractor that was to be involved on the completion of the project. We may not have actually been to the worksite in over 90 days but certainly have continued effort and were ready to complete project when part was delivered. The customer notified us a few days ago by email that he wants to cancel the project stating that his permits were denied on his farm project where we did the work. He is not willing to pay us for the labor that has already been done. Do we still have legal lien rights? Thankyou

Possibly. But you may also be able to sue for breach of contract. If its under $10,000 you can sue in Small Claims Court. If it's over $10,000 you should consult with an attorney.

You bet. File suit within 90 days of cancellation of the contract.
