Do I need to provide canceled checks. See below.

California

I am general contractor in California. All my subs have been paid in full and have provided lien releases to the homeowner and now the homeowner wants me to provide canceled checks. Do I need to provide him cancel checks as I don't want to. The homeowner ran out of money and the job is at a standstill. Thx.

You don’t need to provide copies of your cancelled checks unless your contract requires it, and I doubt that it does. There’s no reason for this anyway if you’ve already provided lien releases from your subs. It sounds like the homeowner is in financial difficulties and is looking for any reason not to pay you. Make sure you’ve made your position clear in writing to the homeowner. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about this.
