Do I have to sign release

we were sub contacted with a contractor. He has been low on payments and not paying in full. We sent out NTO and the GC sent over a lien release that does not have the right amount. Need to know difference in release

Google Florida Statute Section 713.20 and you will see the forms of release that are proper. If the form of release provided to you by A GC does not comply with the statute, then it would be improper for the GC to withhold payment for you on the sole basis that you have not agreed to sign the improper release form.

The amount shown on the lien release is not as critical as the actual amount you are being paid. If they are not giving you a check until you sign the release or they are basing the check on the release, then you definitely want to make sure the lien release is correct. It is common for releases to recite $10.00 as the dollar amount, even though more is owed. You could have an attorney take a look at the release and let you know if there are any other issues with it.
